Wooden Whale Series

In Chronological Order

“I carved the 1st whale in 1980 on my mother’s order to “make something whaleish” as a gift to her nephew, my cousin, Peter F. Krogh, for display in his Nantucket cottage, The Martin Box, and in celebration of ten years as Dean of Foreign Services at Georgetown University.

We named her “Mobetta” – the sperm whale counterpart to Moby Dick. This instance inspired a series of forty hand carved wooden whales over the next decade, and the educational toy program Real Little Whales.” John C. Jackson
